"It's not what happens to you in life that counts,
it's how you choose to respond to it."

Dick O'Brien, M.A.Sc., is a professional speaker and a consultant in human relations. He has been a therapist and a trainer for 32 years. Mr. O'Brien has held senior management positions in government and business. For the past thirty years, he has been assisting corporations, school boards, hospitals and police departments with issues of stress, wellness, counselling and leadership.

Dick O'Brien received his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Waterloo and continues to seek life lessons and wisdom from daily experiences.

He has been in the seminary, a truck driver, an elementary teacher, director of a heroin treatment centre, an alcoholism counsellor, a university instructor, a marriage counsellor and deputy superintendent of a juvenile corrections centre.

For the past 25 years he has been conducting trainings in Wellness, Leadership and Stress Management based on the universal principles of wisdom of the past 5000 years.

Dick O'Brien combines his personal experience as a counsellor and trainer with practical psychology and corporate consulting to develop commonsense presentations.

Dick has presented to employee groups, parents, teachers, professional caregivers, supervisors, business people, police officers and students in the past fifteen years with very positive results. He uses humour, case descriptions and a high degree of enthusiasm to create a worthwhile and practical training seminar.

My deepest belief is that It is far better to develop the wisdom to handle life's problems than to hope you never have any problems. My mission is to travel across Canada and remind people of the things they tend to forget.

My passion is to teach people about our natural capacity to be resilient. This includes the capacities to:

  1. Enjoy the day and stay safe
  2. Come home happy
  3. Work with grace and dignity
  4. Retire with health
  5. Make a contribution
  6. Help others
